at the risk of being labelled a 'homer', i'm pretty sure it's been at least a decade since i've played rayman 3. i'm not blind to the fact that the wii u game was a little bit of an odd fit back then, and i've no doubt that there are elements of rayman origins that'll make the leap to the wii u, but it's been a long time since i've sat down and just enjoyed myself with that particular game. the whole thing is such a barrel of laughs and i'm almost surprised that we're still seeing a new rayman game.

it's not that rayman origins was a bad game. far from it, in fact. the game had a lot going for it - it was fun, inventive, visually stunning, and most of all it was free. so why, then, did we never really hear about the game again? well, ubisoft had bigger fish to fry at the time, and they were keen to keep the game under wraps until they were sure that it would catch on. so they kept it low-key, they kept it on the down-low, and ultimately the game was kept under wraps for a very, very long time.
at the end of the day though, the rayman origins of the past was never going to be the ideal game to get a sequel. it was a very simple platformer, with simple characters and simple gameplay. no bells or whistles, just a simple and wonderful platformer.
you might be amazed at the amount of detail in this hilarious game. it certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. since its release last month, rayman legends has been hailed as one of the best platform games of 2013. some even go so far as to say that it's the best platform game of the current generation.
