Chessmaster 10th Edition

The Chessmaster chess engine is called The King, written by Johan de Köning of the Netherlands. It was introduced in Chessmaster 4000; the first edition featured a chess engine written by David Kittinger, who went on to develop the engines for Interplay's USCF Chess, WChess for the German company Millennium 2000, and Sierra Entertainment's Power Chess, Majestic Chess and Disney's Aladdin Chess Adventures. The second edition had an engine designed by Kate and Dan Spracklen of Sargon fame.

To date, various versions of Chessmaster have appeared on Amiga, Apple II, Apple IIGS, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, MSX, Commodore 64, DOS, PC, Macintosh, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Sega Genesis (as a Sega Channel exclusive), Sega Game Gear, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and mobile phones.[13] Early Macintosh versions Chessmaster 3000 and 4000 were developed by Sebastian Rapport and Troy Heere that leveraged the Kittinger and de Koning engines respectively.[citation needed] Later Macintosh versions were ported by Feral Interactive, and the latest Macintosh version available is Chessmaster 9000. Ubisoft also offers a downloadable version of the game, Chessmaster Challenge, which differs from Chessmaster 10th Edition in its simplified interface and scaled-down tutorials.[14]

The more recent editions of Chessmaster include both 2D and 3D designs, and a large number of different boards and themed chess piece designs. The interface was revised for Chessmaster 10th Edition and features animated 3D sets in which the pieces "walk" between squares and have simulated battles when a piece is taken, reminiscent of Battle Chess or the Wizard's chess set from Harry Potter. Chessmaster 10th Edition also comes packed with a pair of red and blue glasses to view the set in "enhanced 3D".

Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition scored positive reviews, with PC Gamer saying: "this one-stop shop for an entire chess-playing and learning family should last until you're all grandmasters."[26] Chessmaster 10th Edition holds an 84% rating on review aggregator site GameRankings.[27] IGN gave Chessmaster 10th Edition a score of 8.4/10, calling it "the best chess game in town."[25] GameSpot's review of Chessmaster 10th Edition said, "If you're looking for a good chess program that's packed with a plethora of features and all the bells and whistles, you'll be very happy with Chessmaster 10th Edition.[28]

Although the Chessmaster engine is generally not as strong as the engines of other commercially available chess programs such as Fritz,[32][33] critics have praised the Chessmaster series for its comprehensive tutorials aimed at players of amateur and moderate skill levels. In its review of Chessmaster 9000, IGN said that "the series has always distinguished itself with first-rate chess teaching tools," and welcomed the game's "appeal towards inexperienced and mid-level players. With all manner of tutorials, detailed analysis and exercises, the game helps ease newbies into the experience."[34] GameSpot's review of Chessmaster 10th Edition commented positively on the game's "huge bundle of features aimed at everyone from the neophyte who's looking to learn the basics to the advanced wood pusher who may need practice for tournament play."[28]

A common criticism of the series has been the lack of new features in successive installments. IGN's review of Chessmaster 10th Edition commented, "it simply doesn't add enough over any of the last two versions to make it a necessary upgrade."[25]

More than ever, Chessmaster 10th Edition delivers on its promise to make you a better chess player. The program will improve your game regardless of your level of experience. This landmark edition provides the largest upgrade ever to the features and graphics of the franchise. Whether you are new to chess or a tournament-level player, Chessmaster 10th Edition allows you to master history's greatest game.

Hey guys I just bought chessmaster 10th edition and was enjoying it until I upgraded to windows 10. Now my game doesn't work. I really want to keep windows 10 but everytime I clicked play nothing happened and I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it wouldn't reinstall. I kept getting an error at the very end. I really love chessmaster and I hope somebody can help me fix this so I can continue studying the art of chess.

Go here for a look. It will set up CM 9000 on a win 10 computer. Site was checked by Norton, however as ALWAYS, for every down load site, I would advise checking with more than one site checker. -games.com/download/6808/chessmaster-9000 Slight fee required if I read the page correctly.

I've literally gone through a minefield of issues trying to get my game installed. I finally figured out what my issues were. The error I was getting is Error 1628 Failed to Install. In order to clear that, you need to dump your C:\Windows\Temp directory. Something in the temp folder was creating the issue. Once it finished, I found compatibility mode to be a big issue also. CMX plays on Windows 10 without compatibility mode. Sometimes it will automatically install the game.exe on the drive in compatibility mode and it just won't run. If you dig into the C;\Programs Files (86x)\Ubisoft\Chessmaster 10th Edition\game.exe and clear the compatibility settings, it works just fine.

I thought I'd post my recent attempts in case it might help someone. In the last few days, I decided to try to install Chessmaster 9000 and 10th Edition onto a Windows 10 Pro box that I have. My posts regarding these installs are in this thread: -chess-simulators

My install of CM 9000 went fairly smoothly (it does require DirectPlay to be enabled, though); However, my install of CM 10 was eating my lunch until I realized that I had to disable Windows Defender before installing CM 10. I followed the general guidance of KHollister at this link (Post #4 dated 08-01-2018): -chessmaster-10-on-Windows-10

For instance, do the computer characters actually play at the strength of the ratings they have on chessmaster You can play rated games and tournaments against computer characters and you earn a rating yourself.

I was wondering because I played a game on chessmaster against a 1600 something rated character and it made some pretty bad moves. It even traded a piece for a pawn just to get rid of doubled pawns. I used that extra piece advantage to win. I never see 1600's do that on chess.com. They also don't leave their knights out to be food to creat doubled pawns to wreak their end game. It also hung a couple of pawn in the end game and the program won't resign. I really thrashed it.

I do not agree. The thing with chessmaster is that to play with a rating e.g. 1700 the computer character that plays 1700 may make a mistake or hang a piece. if you understand to take advantage of a computer opponents mistake it is very easy to win. In addition to that you may sometimes play with a rating +300 yourself. Another factor that is very important is time How much time to give the computer to calculate moves. just giving the computer 10 minutes for the whole game it won't perform that strong as when you give it 60 minutes for the whole game.

Chess master gm edition is mochary. I have beatin every single bot up to 2100 lvl but am only ranked 1250 against human players. My rating in that game is around 1900 against those bots... big difference. I also played the intermediate study serious, which evaluates all of your skills from, tactics, checkmates, strategy ect... In every single skill set I am ranked above 1600. Then I go and play a game against a human way lower then what my strength indicates.. and get my butt kicked...chess master gm is good for raising your self esteem maybe but has nothing to do with rating accuracy.

I've found it to be quite the opposite. My USCF and chess.com live rating seems to hang out in the 1500's, while my chessmaster rating is in the 1300's. Some days I can beat the higher rated players, but others the lower rated players never make a mistake, or they will make a mistake and I'll be a piece up, then they play like a GM the rest of the game.

I've notices that as well while I can sometimes beat 1700 rated chessmaster players I have had my lunch handed to me by the 1200 waitzkin character.... after beating the 1300 and 1400 versions... I have a grudge against the 1200 because the W/L is in his favor... think its called like Josh Age 6 or some garbage which just makes it more infuriating.... also my real life USCF rating hovers about 200 points higher than my chessmaster rating because of things like this and because when I play it I often play characters well out of my league

All of the chess engines from the last few years can whip the pants off of any human ranked less than grand master, so how do you entice anyone to buy a new chess program Chessmaster 10th Edition's approach is to pack the program with a huge bundle of features aimed at everyone from the neophyte who's looking to learn the basics to the advanced wood pusher who may need practice for tournament play. The result is a very good package that will satisfy most any chess enthusiast. 59ce067264
